A national recovery line taking your call has to find somebody with a free truck and send them, and that somebody is frequently coming from Crawley, Worthing or further.

The roads

The A283 between Storrington and Pulborough is the other regular. It is fast, it is narrow in places, and there is very little hard shoulder to speak of, so a car that has died on it needs moving rather than leaving.
Then there are the lanes. West Chiltington, Thakeham and the roads up towards the downs are single track with passing places, and a broken down car there blocks the road for everybody rather than just for you. That is a different recovery job from a straightforward roadside pick-up, because the truck has to get in and back out again, and it is worth mentioning when you ring so we bring the right vehicle.
